Chinese Ambassador to Japan Wu Jianghao visits Fujisawa SST

7 17, 2023

Fujisawa SST Council & Fujisawa SST Management

On July 17, Mr. Wu Jianghao, Chinese Ambassador to Japan, visited Fujisawa Sustainable Smart Town (hereafter “Fujisawa SST”).

This visit was made possible because of a request from the Chinese Embassy (which was participating in a memorial event held in Fujisawa City at the Nie Er Monument* on the same day) to see Fujisawa SST, an advanced urban development project being promoted in Fujisawa City.

Chinese Ambassador to Japan Wu Jiang Hao, Chinese Embassy staff, Fujisawa City Deputy Mayor Wada, and others participated in the tour. They observed the town concept, the town management company, the efforts of the commercial facility “Shonan T-SITE”, and viewed a demonstration of an automatic delivery robot.

Mr. Wu Jianghao, Chinese Ambassador to Japan, said, “It is wonderful that a former factory site has been redeveloped to create a community like Fujisawa SST,” and expressed high expectations for the further development of Fujisawa SST.

On July 18, Mr. An Enfa, the deputy mayor of Kunming City, Yunnan Province, which is a friendship city of Fujisawa City, also visited.

* Nie Er Monument: Nie Er, the composer of the national anthem of the People’s Republic of China, “March of the Volunteer Army,” was born in Kunming, Yunnan Province in 1912, and died during his visit to Japan while swimming at Kugenuma Beach on July 17, 1935. In 1954, Fujisawa citizen volunteers erected a monument to mourn his death in the foreign land he passed away in. Every year on July 17th, the anniversary of Nie Er’s death, a memorial festival is held.
